Composites Technician

Overview

Calspan Systems in Newport News, VA is an industry leader in the engineering and manufacture of complex aerospace hardware and prototype systems for ground test and flight applications. We have been employed in the development of nearly every domestic fixed-wing aircraft, missile, and helicopter system. We are looking for a motivated Composties Technician to join our team!

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities Listed Below - Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience.

Offering $2,000 sign-on bonus

* Pour or spread materials into mold or over pattern or builds laminations of fiberglass cloth and plastic resin to fabricate parts/patterns and tooling from assorted materials such as plastic, plaster, or graphite; construct templates for layout and inspection.

* Assemble model sections; fabricate parts to specified finish by performing one or more of the following: drilling, tapping, fitting, forming, sanding, polishing, and reaming, and general bench work including surface finishing to specifications

* Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions, and lead assigned tasks by planning the sequence of operations depending upon specified material and assembly to ensure project completion.

* Set up and operate various wood and metal machine tools and other power tools to machine, cut, and shape parts and patterns to specifications

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience for Machinist:

* Associates degree or certification in related discipline

* Related job experience or a combination of education and experience

Preferred Knowledge / Ability for Machinist:

* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

* Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

* Ability to articulate and trouble-shoot problems with customers, engineers, production, programming, and/or assembly personnel

* Displays proficiency when working with vacuum bonding and laminating/composite technology.

* Ability to working with metallic and/or composite materials such graphite, honeycomb, film and foaming adhesives.

* Knowledge of cure cycle's and run times

* Capability to operate Bondtech autoclave properly

* Knowledge of composites sandwich constructions
